Our top tips for travelling with friends and family in a motorhome

Looking to experience something new with your friends or family now that summer is here? A motorhome holiday is the perfect way to create memories and explore all the natural sights and scenery Australia has to offer. Visit new destinations whilst enjoying all the amenities and comforts afforded by a motorhome.

We’ve compiled a list of our top tips when travelling with a group to ensure your adventure is as seamless and enjoyable as possible!

Plan your routes

A plan is key when travelling with a group. Discuss the routes you will be taking beforehand and make sure everyone is satisfied with the plan. Find out which destinations your travel companions are eager to see along the way. Ensure you address how the driving will be shared so that everyone can take breaks and get enough rest. Everybody is different, so having initial discussions and a plan in place will ensure you all get the most out of the experience.

Plan your activities

Striking the right balance between group activities and relaxation will make your trip more enjoyable. Travelling with family or friends allows for some collective, fun-filled experiences that will create amazing memories. Anything from water activities, hiking and fishing, to enjoying local restaurants, cafes or bar hopping. There are so many things to see and do as a group that you’ll never fall short.

However, make sure everyone gets time to relax and reflect at each new destination. Solo adventures can be just as fun and are great to indulge in every now and then. Break your trip down to 1–2-hour driving trips per day to ensure you get time to rest and enjoy every destination along the way.

Be flexible

When it comes to group trips, you should always be mindful that not everything will always go to plan. Everyone has different interests and desires, which means things can often change while on the road. To combat this, we recommend always allowing extra time in case opportunities come up.

If plans do change, use this opportunity to stay at a destination longer, immerse yourself in the area and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. We believe committing yourself to a rigid plan can often take some of the spontaneity and fun away from your holiday, so make sure you leave time to roam freely.

Plan your meals

Planning what you’ll be eating on the road will give you some added peace of mind when travelling with a group. Dietary requirements and preferences will come into play, so discussing which meals will be split up and which ones will be combined is a great idea.

Create a collective grocery list with everyone’s food requirements to stock up for the first few days. This list might get lengthy, so make sure everyone includes only the essential items they need. You can even order from Coles online and get your groceries delivered to the Let’s Go branch you’re collecting from before your trip.

Travelling is also the perfect time to dine at local restaurants and cafes. Support local tourism and enjoy produce from the area during your stay.

Communication is key

Communicating effectively with your travel companions will ensure that you’re collectively navigating through any matters that may arise. Have an open and honest conversation with your travel buddies about your expectations for the trip and how you can work together to make the most out of it.
