Why now is the ideal time for a family getaway in a motorhome

places to stay

With the school holidays just around the corner, many of us would normally be planning a family getaway which involves booking flights and weighing up a range of accommodation options. However, as the Covid-19 pandemic has swept the globe, we’ve had to rethink many aspects of our lives including the way we holiday with the family.

Travel is more complex than ever before and it may even be tempting to abandon the idea of a family getaway these holidays altogether—but before you decide to throw in the towel, now is actually the perfect time for a family motorhome getaway. Here’s why…

1.    An adventure could be just what everyone needs

After spending months at home cooped up in the same confined space while juggling the demands of work and home-schooling, many of us are suffering from a serious case of cabin fever.

If you can relate, a family adventure could be just the thing the doctor would order to renew everyone’s zest for life. As restrictions continue to ease, heading out on the road for a family adventure could work wonders to boost everyone’s mood, break the monotony of life indoors over the past few months and provide greater perspective on the various freedoms we can still enjoy.

2.    You can experience something a little different

As the cooler months set in, many of us would normally plan an escape to a place much warmer than this—however this year, things are a little different. Overseas travel in the current environment is complicated and potentially risky, making domestic travel the far more appealing option.

In Australia, we’re lucky enough to have some of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes you’ll find anywhere in the world right on our doorstep. Even during the cool winter months, there are countless family-friendly destinations right throughout Australia which are just waiting for you to discover.

Many northern destinations like Darwin and Cairns and are still enjoying beautifully warm and sunny weather which are perfect to escape the cold. Even in cooler southern locations, there is still so much to love during Australian winters including snowy alpine regions, moody windswept beaches, enchanting forests and vast deserts. There really is no limit to what this great nation has to offer!

3.    It’s easier to stay safe

The need to stay safe and protect your loved ones is at an all-time high. Even domestic travel can carry certain risks, particularly if you’re staying in different accommodation in multiple locations where the cleaning and sanitation processes in-between visitors may not be up to scratch.

A motorhome getaway is the ideal way for the whole family to holiday together safely. Rather than staying in different accommodation in each location you visit, a motorhome getaway allows you to stay in a single form of accommodation for the entire duration of your trip, decreasing the potential for exposure to Covid-19 no matter how many destinations you decide to visit.

4.    You’ll be supporting the locals who need it most

With so much focus being placed on the current pandemic, it’s almost easy to forget that only a few months ago so many families living in rural and regional locations across Australia (particularly in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia) were subjected to some of the most devastating bushfires we’ve seen in recent times.

Not only did the bushfires claim many lives and destroy thousands of buildings, many individuals who reside in bushfire-impacted regions were also stripped of their livelihoods when the local tourism they rely on to generate an income came to a complete halt in the middle of the peak tourism season.

While many of us did what we could to help by providing valuable financial and other donations, one of the most beneficial things you can do to support those impacted by the bushfires is to visit bushfire-impacted townships to help get their local economies moving again.

Not only do many of these places offer plenty of great family-friendly activities and experiences, but you’ll also be providing a much-needed helping hand to communities that really deserve it.
