Best Fish And Chips – Great Ocean Road

best fish and chips great ocean road

When you visit a country surrounded by water, you know you will be able to get great fish and chips pretty much anywhere you go, although the range of quality can be significant.

This is the first in a series of reviews of the best fish and chips shops in Australia and in this article we focus on three great fish and chip shops you will find along the Great Ocean Road.

Apollo Bay Fisherman Co-Op Society

Trafalgar St, Apollo Bay

Yes, we know it is a mouthful to say, but you will be glad you did! The fish is fresh, the view from the deck is pretty good and the prices are reasonable.

It is a little bit out of the way from the main strip, but parking is easy and you won’t have any trouble getting a table on the deck.

The Salty Dog Fish and Chippery

Great Ocean Rd (Cnr Brownes Lane), Lorne

All the standard fare of your normal fish and chip shop, bust as you would expect for a seaside town, it is super fresh and they change their oil regularly so your chips will always be crisper rather than soggy, as any chip connoisseur would know!

You can eat in or take away, but our recommendation is to grab a spot in the car park opposite, pull out the annexe and enjoy the view with a Sauv Blanc.

Anglesea Fish Shop

83 Great Ocean Rd, Anglesea

Again, crispy chips mean fresh oil and these chips are fantastic. It is pretty well priced which means great value. The fish selection is broad and the quality is very good.

Parking is good except in peak times. Ring to order and drive by to pick up. You won’t want to eat there, take it back to your caravan park.
